Romania has formally adopted Germany's open-source EUDI Wallet solution. First phase (mobile app, PID issuance, age verification) planned for 2026. Implementation led by MEDAT, MAI, and STS. Romania's new chip-based biometric digital ID (CEI) is now available nationwide as part of the broader effort to align with eIDAS and support cross-border travel and digital public services.
